CHAI took the stage on July 23rdat the Troubadour in Los Angeles just a few months removed from releasing their critically acclaimed 2019 album “PUNK”. There’s been a lot of buzz around the Japanese 4-piece band and their hour-long set showed why.

The evening opened with a terrific power-pop set from Kingsbury, a solo project of 23-year-old Caroline Kingsbury.  Strong and vulnerable choruses led the charge and Kingsbury’s talented supporting band more than pulled their weight.

Shortly after their set ended, CHAI took the stage to a raucous crowd.  Over the course of their set, the band ran through the hits from their March release (“Choose Go!”, “Fashionista”, etc.) and pulled out some older hits that played to the crowd well. Yes, the music sounded great, but the stars of the show were the band members themselves.  Each one injected their personality into crowd interactions and each had their own brand of energy and optimism.  If they’re around, this isn’t a show to miss.
