Music, Why Not!

5 Seconds of Summer @ The Woodlands Pavilion – Houston, TX

5 Seconds of Summer brought their “Take My Hand Tour” with opener Pale Waves to Houston and it was definitely a memorable show.

Fans lined up for hours outside in the Houston heat trying to get a good spot to see their favorite band. Once doors opened, everyone cheered in excitement and they immediately walked as fast as they could to try and be as close as possible to the barricade. Once inside, fans started taking pictures with each other, chanting the band’s name, bought merch and prepared themselves for the night that was yet to come.

The show started with Manchester Indie Rock band, Pale Waves. The band opened their set with the song “Change”, immediately the crowd cheered for them and started singing, and dancing to the song. The band then took a moment to each introduce themselves to the crowd, made jokes about how hot it is in Texas, and described their excitement to play for us. They proceeded to play songs from their entire discography and even played a new song for us called “Jealousy” which was dedicated to all those jealous people in our lives. For the next song they encouraged everyone to clap to the beat of the song “She’s My Religion”, the crowd cooperated and made the moment special. After this song there was a brief moment of technical difficulties, the band did not let that stop them from continuing the set and giving us a great show, it showed their level of professionalism. They ended their set with “There’s a Honey” and exited off stage. The band truly gave everyone a great impression and made new fans. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.

Up next to take the stage was 5 Seconds of Summer. As soon as the band stepped foot out on that stage the entire venue roared in cheers from the fans. The show started with the song “No Shame”, followed by “Easier” and “More”, the fans sang/screamed all these songs word by word without missing a beat, it was very cool to see. The band then took a moment to introduce themselves and play a little game with the fans. They wanted to know which section in the venue would cheer the loudest and the winner was Luke’s side. The band continued to play more of their songs such as “Besides You”, which had an amazing laser light show attached to it, “Waste The Night” and “Complete Mess”. After performing “Lover of Mine” there seemed to be a small issue, the show stopped and a crew member came out and announced that there was going to be a small break during the show, the entire crowd mumbled in confusion with what was happening as it seemed to be out of the ordinary. Fans mumbled that something happened to drummer Ashton and that he was escorted out of the stage in an urgent manner. After a few more minutes the same crew member came out and said that unfortunately the show would be canceled and for everyone to keep an eye out for more information. A day after the show, it was informed that Ashton was rushed out due to heat exhaustion, and that the show would unfortunately not be rescheduled. If there’s anything that this shows is that Ashton and the band love fans so much that they kept performing even though their bodies were exhausted, they cared more about the fans through the night. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see them in Houston sometime in the future again. If 5SOS and Pale Waves come to a city near you, please make sure to attend, the show will be unforgettable.
