The UK is seemingly paving the way for brand new generation of indie rock talent, whether that be solo artists or up and coming bands. One of those that are sure to be at the forefront of this revolution is The Big Moon. The Big Moon was formed in London in 2014 by lead singer Juliette Jackson, guitarist Soph Nathan, bassist Celia Archer, and drummer Fern Ford.  The girl group have gone from strength to strength since their formation, having landed multiple support dates for huge acts like the Pixies and have had a successful string of musical releases including their 2020 album ‘Walking Like We Do’ showed that these girls were serious frontrunners for a future in the spotlight. The Big Moon are gearing up for the release of their latest studio album, ‘Here is Everything’ which is set to be released on the 14th October and after some serious delays with Covid the group finally set out on their biggest headlining tour with the release date for their latest body of work fast approaching. We were lucky enough to catch the girls as they played to a sold-out crowd in Manchester down at the Manchester Academy 2. Support from the night came from the amazing Arxx and Gently Tender.

Along with the Covid cancellations, The Big Moon have been fairly public with issues they’ve faced so far this tour with gear being stranded in Europe. However, in true showmanship the girls simply said the show must go on and boy did they deliver. It was a cold dark Sunday night in Manchester and yet The Big Moon made it feel like a party and celebration as if it were a Friday night. As the girls walked out on stage individually each member received a loud applause from the packed-out venue and the show got under way with the track, “It’s Easy Then”. The Big Moon played such an energetic set but still incorporated their emotional songs into the show which had many of those in the room in tears, but in a very special way. The Big Moon played a range of fan favourites from their discography including, “Why”, “Cupid” and many more before ending the night with arguably their most successful hit, “Your Light”.  This show in Manchester felt like a real star defining moment for The Big Moon and I for one can’t wait to hear the new album when it releases and desperately wait to see what this band does in the very near future.
