Irish indie post-punk band Fontaines D.C. are having an absolute whirlwind of a year and reaching unimaginable heights within the scene. From sold out shows across the UK and Europe to announcing that they’ll be supporting the Arctic Monkeys on tour next year, it’s certainly been one to remember. The bands’ recent success comes just off the back of their album release earlier this year ‘Skinty Fia’, which was the band’s first number-one album in both Ireland and the UK. Fontaines D.C. consists of school friends Grian Chatten, Carlos O’Connell, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III and Tom Coll. Massive success isn’t all to new to Fontaines D.C. however, their debut album ‘Dogrel’ was an instant classic and a record that launched the band into the spotlight. The album was crowned as Album of the Year on record store Rough Trade’s website and was even nominated for both the Mercury Prize and the Choice Music Prize. The boys now find themselves knee deep into their biggest UK and Ireland tour to date with immense hype and sold-out shows across the board. Fontaines D.C. made this run of shows one for the history books too with many of the shows selling out instantly and with the high demand in place, plenty of second and third dates were added for specific shows. We were lucky enough to catch Fontaines D.C. as they took over Manchester’s O2 Victoria Warehouse for the first of three special sold-out shows and trust me, once you’ve seen this band live you can certainly see why everyone was itching to grab a ticket. Support for the night came from fast rising band Wunderhorse.
