On Saturday April 13th Houston, Texas was treated to a pretty thick metalcore lineup with Asking Alexandria headlining the “ALL MY FRIENDS” tour.

We were lucky enough to catch “The Word Alive” and “Memphis May Fire” and part of the opening slot by “Nerv”. Easily the openers can hold their own as there were no fillers that night. The opening band Nerv had the crowd singing along word for word. This is a great sign that the future is bright for these guys. As a person newly accustomed to the genre, I left with even greater appreciation for what these artists do for their fans. Next, The Word Alive came out strong with the song “2012”. Lead vocalist Tyler Smith was an extremely entertaining front man who carried himself well on stage. For me, the energy he emitted was contagious and combined well with his bandmates. Yet again, I could hear fans behind me shouting lyrics with their chest. Exciting as the night became, Memphis May Fire one of my favorite bands now, came next. From here on, fan after fan were flying over the barricade. MMF is one of the pioneers of metalcore and they definitely showed up that night. They share deep connection to the region as they emphasized that MMF was born in Texas (Horns up). They played “Make Believe” my favorite song “Blood and Water” and had the whole place singing to “Miles Away”.

The night closed with Asking Alexandria.  They opened with “closure” and again, people were crowd surfing over the barricade. As I turned around there wasn’t one smile missing. AA is one of the most entertaining bands you will ever see live. Without pyro, without gimmicks, they just know how to command the stage and perform with passion. Danny Worsnop’s vocals were on point as expected and like the rest of the night the crowd sang almost every song in its entirety. Even between sets the general commotion outside was that this is one of the best lineups they had ever seen, and these bands fit so well together. New fans were made and that to me is one of the greatest connections a human can make. Thanks to the bands and powers that be for allowing us to experience this night.
