April 25th may have brought beautiful weather to New Haven, CT, but fans of Remi Wolf paid no mind to it as they entered College Street Music Hall for her sold-out show in search of a night of fun and escapism.
Dana and Alden, the brother duo from Eugene, Oregon, were joined by their band of talented musicians to open the show with their smooth jazz tones. Although they had only a handful of songs with lyrics in them, their stage presence was enough to lure the crowd in and keep them engaged. Although they typically have a rotating group of musicians that play with them, it was clear that everyone on that stage was happy to share their art.
Remi Wolf lit up the stage with an explosion of color, charisma, and chaos right from the beginning of her set. Shortly into the show, she led the audience through a vocal and body warm up in order to prepare them for the night. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard College Street Music Hall so loud! Her vocals were as strong and sharp as ever, even as she bounded the stage from left to right, dancing in a rotation with each of her bandmates. Despite the sold-out crowd, fans didn’t hesitate to dance along with her, yelling out lyrics to songs like “Sexy Villain” and “Cinderella”. She created a playful atmosphere that sucked the crowd in, making them never want to leave.
It was a night of joy for anyone that attended, and a personal reminder to me that even if I may not be too familiar with an artist, live music is always fun.
