Music, Why Not!

Acid Tongue

MWN: We are stoked to talk with you guys today! So thank you for answering the questions! So where did your passion for playing music come from, because being a musician is not always as easy and glamorous as it looks.

Acid Tongue: I lost my virginity right before I turned 17. It was really awkward, on a futon. I think that’s around the time I envisioned this project as something that could get me off the futon and on to a much nicer, softer mattress.

MWN: Oh haha well that is quiet the way to put it. Hey I think it worked out pretty well so far. So I think that the music we like at an early age has a lot to do with what surrounds at home, but as we grow into our own states we start developing our own likes. So who would you say are some artist you grew up listening to and also grew into liking on your own?

Acid Tongue:  Was never a big Hall & Oates fan until I was suddenly a huge Hall & Oates fan. Ditto for Steely Dan.

MWN: Hall & Oates classic. Totally just thought of “Maneater”. I haven’t heard that song in forever. It is a good tune tho. To be honest with you I particularly love your art work. It is always so refreshing to see how comical it is. How do you guys come up with the ideas of your artwork?

Acid Tongue:  I’m pretty sure Ian, my drummer, watched a lot of cartoons and continues to watch a lot of cartoons in his spare time. We are also watching the cartoon looney toons fun time presidency go down everyday. Oh, the places you’ll go!

MWN:  Haha I love that you guys seem really light hearted, but touch on important life matter with your music. I love how in your SXSW bio it said that you guys focus on depicting in your songs the suffering from the American condition, and the Southern California skate culture, left-wing political activism and 90s Nickelodeon. Why do these concepts play out in your music?

Acid Tongue: These are things that define our generation, the so-called millennials. I write about all the tasty bits of life that shaped me growing up, and that still affect me today.

MWN:  That is true and I love that about your music. Like I said your songs are witty, but they are heartfelt also. Speaking of your music, from the album Beautiful Disaster I really like Annie Get your Scissors- I love the vocals they are killer. Can you tell me a bit more about the creative process of the song?

Acid Tongue:  When I was 19, my ex girlfriend had a psychotic breakdown and attacked me. She hit me in the head with a pipe, kicked me in the groin so hard I thought I was dead, and then she decided I needed an impromptu haircut. Started shearing off chunks of hair until I had enough sense to stumble out of her place. Two restraining orders and a couple attorneys later, I am the proud father of that song.

MWN:  Oh wow really that is an intense story… At least you are able to put it all in your music. So how do you narrow down the songs that get put on the record?

I think of a song, I decide I like it, and then I record it.

MWN:  Alright simple enough! Now I also read that you guys traveled extensively and even experimented in a Mexican Yurt. How did those experiences impact you as a creators? What did you get out of it?

Acid Tongue: We used to roll with Johnny Depp in his heyday (pre-Troll Depp. He looks awful now!). Those were happier times. Huge mistake making that Willie Wonka movie; I think that was the beginning of the end.

MWN:  Hahahaha oh gosh! Alright loving the creative funny answers here! So, if you had to live in any country for a year which one would it be?

Acid Tongue:Murica’!

MWN:  Patriotic! Okay so if you could have a jam session with any artist dead or alive who would it be?

Acid Tongue: King Louie from the Jungle Book. Ooh-bi-doo, I wan’na be like you. I want to walk like you, talk like you, too You see it’s true, an ape like me .Can learn to be like you, too…

MWN:  You really go back to all the classics haha! If you had to trade places with someone else in a band who would it be?

Acid Tongue:  Kendrick. We all wanna rap like Kendrick.

MWN:  I want rap like Eminem, but we can go with Kendrick for now! So with all you have gone through. What is your favorite love song?

Acid Tongue: At Last, as performed by Etta James.

MWN:  Etta James love her!- “Misty Blue” is one of my favorite songs ever. Alright so lastly what would you like to say to the people who have supported your music?

Acid Tongue: Thank you all, you beautiful, unique, imaginative human beings! We love you.
