AJ Tracey is a London, UK-based rapper, and he grew up in a neighborhood called Ladbroke Grove,which is in the city’s west end.He started off as a fresh new voice for the Grimeculture of UK hip-hop and has released projects and tracks based off of Grime culture. In 2015, he released his debut EP, The Front, where he mainly stayed connected with his Grime roots. Later throughout the years, he has released projects like Lil Tracey (EP), Secure the Bag! (EP), and much more. He has also been fond of experimenting with different sounds and collaborating with different artists outside of the UK, like Aminé, Missy Elliott, Rick Ross, and Denzel Curry. At the beginning of this year, AJ Tracey released his debut, self-titled album, which features verses from UK hip-hop artists like Not3s and Giggs, as well as a verse from New York City’sown Jay Critch. Traceymentioned that he had experimented with different genres, such as Trinidadian socasince he has Trinidadianroots, as well as EDM and country music. The album features solid hit singles, such as Psych Out!, Ladbroke Grove, Jackpot, and Butterflies; as well, it has been receiving great reviews from platforms like Pitchfork and The Observer. When it was decided that AJ Tracey will go on a 3-show North American tour, it was noted that he will stop at Toronto first, at the well-known Velvet Underground. When he came out for his set, AJ Tracey started off with tracks from his older projects and his older singles, such as LA for a Week& Pasta. When performing, he was rocking a signature Toronto Raptorsjersey with his name on the back of the jersey, in support of the Toronto Raptorswinning their first NBA Championship. As far as performing, he managed to perform very well with fast hard-hitting tracks, as well as maintaining great energy, in order to establish an amazing stage performance. AJ was also dancing to Drake’s song, Nonstop,with the crowd, in which they really enjoyed.
When he performed the Raw-produced track, Jackpot, off his debut album, he gave great crowd participation to the crowd and managed to show love to the crowd many times. Tracey’s unique wordplay and the way he was vibing to certain tracks made the crowd really enjoy his performance, much more. While managing to not break a sweat and keeping his cool for his entire set, his hard-hitting lyricism and him being comfortable rapping on various beats, made him a great performer and musician all-around. In the end, he also brought out local , Young Smoke& Puffy L’z, to perform their latest tracks for their upcoming projects. Young Smoke performed Days By Da Rabba, while Puffy L’z performed Been Flexin, one of his most well-known tracks in the city, and he also performed an unreleased track called Get the Bag, which is for an upcoming project, to come out soon.
