Aly and AJ brought the A Touch of The Beat tour to House of Blues in Houston and wow was it an incredible show.
If you grew up watching Disney, you know who this iconic duo is. They impacted many childhood lives and it was very apparent as most of the crowd that attended were in their mid to late 20’s. Fans were waiting outside for hours talking about the group and reminiscing on their childhood memories waiting in excitement to see the group they grew up with. Doors opened and the show had two openers, Sneaky Peaches & The Fuzz, and The Brummies. Both of these artists brought a different vibe to the stage, they each had their own groovy style and incredible stage presence. The fans loved them.
It was finally time for Aly and AJ to perform, the duo opened with “Pretty Places” the opening song from their first album since 2007, “A Touch of the Beat Gets You Up on Your Feet Gets You Out and Then Into the Sun”. Fans immediately started singing with them at their top of their lungs, it’s always nice to see everyone smiling and enjoying themselves. They continued to play songs from their recent album such as “Lost Cause”, my favorite “Slow Dancing” and “Dead on the Beach”. They even sang some old classics such as “Chemicals React” and “No One”. I really admired how versatile they were in each playing different instruments, they would go from playing guitar, to piano to drums, it’s not something you see many artists do and the fans loved it.
The girls are also extremely vocal in their support of the LGBTQ+ community. Mid show they stopped and explained how they were giving away a free meet and greet to a lucky fan who signed a petition or donated any amount they wanted to either The Trevor Project or To Write Love on Her Arms. They continued their set saying “this one is for the gays” and covered Tegan and Sara’s “Closer”, the crowd cheered in excitement and we all sang along. The show ended with the explicit version of their hit song “Potential Breakup Song”. The crowd went wild screaming the song at the top of their chest, everyone was reliving their childhood days, it was such a fun moment for everyone. If Aly and AJ ever come to a city near you, please make sure to attend, you will not want to miss it!
