Amyl & The Sniffers @ 02 Academy – Liverpool, U.K.

Amyl Liverpool 2022

Amyl and The Sniffers, a punk rock band from Melbourne Australia visited Liverpool UK for the first time ever to play O2 Academy last Saturday. Although they changed their concert date to a month earlier than planned, they were welcomed crowds of fans wanting to see the band from Down Under.

At approximately half past seven appeared Liverpool band, Piss Kitty. They presented solid punk songs. Piss Kitty is an up-and-coming punk star of the Liverpool music scene with raising popularity from day to day. It is definitely worth looking into this young band. After a short break, on stage were  C.O.F.F.I.N, Sydney based, self-described Psychotic Skate Punk & Aussie Pub Thrash band. Its name stands for Children of Finland Fighting in Norway. The C.O.F.F.I.N is an interesting band with the drummer on vocals, great guitar riffs and an excellent drumming beat For sure this band gained many new fans among the audience.

Next on stage, main star of tonight’s gig Amyl and The Sniffers. I had been waiting to see this band again since 2017 when I saw photographs from one of their gigs taken by an Australian photographer I follow on Instagram. What a band they are! Fronted by Amy Taylor, a mega energetic human. They started with a song ‘Freaks to the front’ and pandemonium started. Usually at gigs, we hear few quick songs then slow to rest, but not this time! All the songs are packed with pure punk energy. Mosh pit is relentless, and so were Amy and the rest of boys.  We hear songs like ‘Control’, ‘Maggot’, ‘Gacked on anger’. The ecstatic crowd can rested for a moment when Amy for the first time said few words to the gathered at O2 Academy crowd. It was their first show in Liverpool and she loves it. Then we hear first few words of ‘Security’: ‘Security will you let me in your pub I’m not looking for trouble I’m looking for love…’ and crowd is red hot again. Looking at it I wonder how so much energy can be packed in such a small person as Amy. She is definitely one of the best frontwomen of our times. Next, we hear song ‘Balaclava Lover Boogie’ which is from their second EP: ‘Big Attraction’ released back in 2017. Songs from their new album ‘Comfort To Me’ are much better in my opinion, clearly we can see progress band made musically and lyrically. I wouldn’t be surprised if next year we will see band playing much bigger crowds. Next song is ‘Guided by the angels’. So far, crowds favourite but there is no time for rest as we hear songs ‘Knifey’, ‘Don’t fence me’. Both songs are Entrées before we are served the main dish of the evening, songs ‘Some Mutts (Can’t Be Muzzled)’ and ‘Hertz’. The mosh pit can finally stop.

What a night. Amazing gig! Definitely one to remember and for sure it will now be one of Liverpool’s classics. Amyl and The Sniffers please comeback soon.
