MWN: So how did you like playing SXSW?
Annabel Allum: SXSW was an incredible experience. I met so many amazing people and hope I get the opportunity to do it again!
MWN: Any memorable memories from the festival?
Annabel Allum: Sleeping in our broken down car… ha.
MWN: How did you get your start in music? What influenced to want to be a musician?
Annabel Allum: I’ve always loved performing…making people feel something. I started writing my own songs, then doing open mics, and eventually I got offered a proper gig! After that I was hooked.
MWN: “Rich Backgrounds” recently dropped. Which I am a big fan of the tune. I love how your voice is almost fragile at first and then it gets heavier. So, how do you go about decided how the songs are going to sound like?
Annabel Allum: The songs write themselves.
MWN: Is there any artist in particular that has influenced your music?
Annabel Allum: Not a singular artist, no. Art in general, yes.
MWN: A little bit on the lighter side of things. I was going through your Instagram and it is quite aesthetic. I love it! So I must ask, what’s the story behind perfect Instagram post?
Annabel Allum: Thanks! I dont know what a perfect instagram post looks like. I just enjoy being creative
MWN: Now I also saw that you had a song be part of the film Spaceship- which you even acted in yourself. So how was that like?
Annabel Allum: Being on set was an awesome experience. I hadn’t been in that kind of environment until then so it was a huge eye opener to how these things work. Grateful for the opportunity and the opportunities that came from it.
MWN: How is it feeling have played SXSW this time around? How do you prep for a music festival like this?
Annabel Allum: I guess practice a lot but also not to stress the small stuff. I feel like the more perfect you want something to be, the more imperfect it will be. Not setting yourself any expectations allows you to exceed all of them.
MWN: As we finish of the interview is there anything you would like to say to the people that have believed in your music and stuck by your side?
Annabel Allum: Thank you. Believe in yourself. See you soon.
