boygenius @ The Piece Hall – Halifax, UK

Just two days after playing their first ever show in the UK, and one of their biggest as a band, performing at London’s 25,000 capacity Gunnersbury Park, modern-indie supergroup boygenius headed up north to Halifax as they took over the beautiful Piece Hall for two very special shows. The unbelievably talented group consists of members and friends Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus. boygenius have been making waves in the States as a group ever since their formation in 2018, each member has also enjoyed highly successful solo careers alongside the band project, But when ‘the boys’ come together as a collective, it truly is something special. The band made a huge announcement earlier this year that their debut studio album “The Record” would be releasing in March of 2023 and has already gone down as an instant classic from both their adoring fans and musical critics alike. When the announcement of the summer string of UK shows was also revealed, these shows in Halifax were instantly some of my most anticipated of the year and I’m beyond happy to say that they lived up to that expectation. We were lucky enough to be present at the second night in Halifax, which was filled to the brim of adoring boygenius fans and it made for one of the best crowd atmospheres I’ve seen in recent years. Unity and love simply flowed through the crowd throughout the night and it was clear that everyone was truly excited to see boygenius perform. The boys played a stunning setlist from their debut album and even included some of their own solo work too, there was tears, a whole lot of love and a whole lot of laughs the entire night and even as the rain began at the beginning of the set, it didn’t spoil anything and only added to this emotional and brilliant atmosphere of the show. It was one of the most special sets I’ve ever had the joy of photographing and this band are truly incredible. Support for the night came from friend of the band and rising star in her own right, Ethel Cain.
