On Sunday, October 2, the stage at Toad’s Place in New Haven, CT was lit up with talent as Jillian Jacqueline took the stage followed by headliner, Cam. This was Jillian’s first tour back after quite some time due to Covid and having a baby, but she spoke on how having a baby made her miss it more; it confirmed that playing music and touring was still something that she wanted to do. This show in Connecticut was her last for this tour, but that made it special for her. Jillian is a fan of Cam and her music, so this whole tour was a dream for her, plus her family had come out to support her for this final run. She closed her set with her song “God Bless This Mess”, a song that holds a special place for her and that she feels anyone can relate to at some point in their life.
Cam had stepped out moments before her show to give kind of a pep talk to the audience. She spoke about how her and her band used performing as a release of their emotions, thoughts, etc. and encouraged the audience to do the same during the show. Cam is the type of artist that everyone could enjoy seeing live. She was such a joy to watch; dancing along to the music and showcasing her bright personality in between each song. The venue is located right off of Yale University’s campus, so her and the band had some time earlier in the day to explore some of the campus buildings – whether or not they were allowed to is another story, according to her. That personality also reflected within her music – her sound being full of uplifting tempos and heartfelt lyrics. She closed her set with her song “Girl Like Me”, a song that, at first, sounds like another one about heartbreak, but in reality it’s about her journey through life and within the music industry. Although her tour is nearly over with only one more date in New York City, be sure to be on the lookout for more music from her if you’re looking for more country artists to listen to!
