Music, Why Not!

Clairo @ Bayou Music Center – Houston, TX

Clairo brought her SLING tour to Houston and it was a show to remember.

Fans were lined up as early as noon to try and get a good spot to see their favorite artist. The line wrapped around 2 blocks, I rarely see a line that long so I knew it was going to be a good night. As soon as the doors opened fans rushed inside the venue to try and get as close as possible to their favorite artist, everyone was beyond excited because it meant that they were getting closer and closer until showtime.

Arlo Parks opened the show for Clairo and she was an artist I was definitely excited to see. She opened her set with “Green Eyes” and many fans joined her in singing. She had great stage presence interacting with fans all along the barricade. During “Caroline” and “Eugene” she asked all the fans to join her in singing, which many did, it was incredible how many people knew all of the words without missing a beat. Parks ended her set with “Hope”, she thanked Clairo for having her on tour and thanked the fans for making her last show with the singer a special one.

It was finally Clairo’s time to perform, as soon as she stepped foot on stage the entire venue screamed and cheered for her. She sat down at her piano and performed the first song of the night “Bambi”. Immediately the crowd joined her in unison and everyone was singing along together. She then proceeded to switch to playing guitar for her songs “Zinnias” and “Wade”. After playing these songs she took a quick moment to thank everyone in the crowd for coming out to the show and let us know to have as much fun as possible. She proceeded to sing some songs from her “Immunity” album like “North” and one of my personal favorites “Bags”.

During the song “Blouse” Clairo brought out Arlo Parks and sang the song together one last, as the song ended she thanked Arlo for joining her on the tour and gave each other a big hug. There was a moment during the show where the singer stopped singing because she noticed that a fan needed medical attention. She made sure they got the help they needed and then resumed the show. I really admired this in her because not many artists will stop a show to check on their fans, it shows that there’s respect between them and her. Clairo then continued to perform a new song titled “Nomad” which some fans seemed to have already memorized, considering she just started playing in her earlier shows, it truly shows their dedication.

Clairo once again took a moment to thank fans for an incredible night while in tears, she stated that she has never cried so much at a show like she did in Houston, it shows how much the night meant to her. As the show was coming to an end, Clairo played some of her bedroom pop classics like “Pretty Girl”, when the instrumentals started everyone immediately knew what song it was and cheered. Clairo finished the set with fan favorite song “Sofia”, everyone immediately got their phones out, cheered and started screaming the lyrics, including myself. It was a great way to end the show, Clairo and the band took one final bow and left the stage. It was such a fun night, if Clairo ever comes to a city near you please do yourself a favor and attend the show, you won’t regret it.
