MWN: We are currently at White Oak Music Hall in Houston, TX on this very hot summer day with the pop-rock trio from Manhattan, NY, Dreamers. Hey guys! Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us. Before we dive into the music could you briefly introduce yourselves and your role in the band!
Dreamers:
Nick: I’m Nick and I play guitar and I sing.
Jacob: I’m Jacob and I play drums in the band.
Nelson: I’m Nelson and I play bass.
MWN:How did you all meet and form the band?
Dreamers:
Nick: I met Nelson in New York where I was living for years and I was living in my practice space, I only worked one day a week and I didn’t have an apartment so I was just writing music all the time and that’s when I met Nelson and it all started from there.
MWN:What made you pick the name “Dreamers” as a band name?
Dreamers:
Jacob: Because it was the coolest band name ever.
Nelson: Because no one had it haha.
Nick: We love what it means, we think that what artists are the people who can think, dream and imagine. It’s what we aspire to be in our lives so that’s why we call ourselves that.
MWN:What is the bands creative process like?? What inspires your music videos and songs?
Dreamers:
Nick: So many things. I would say that the reason I wanted to make music in the first place is that there were crazy things that I’d felt that I couldn’t express in words and music has this crazy power to express and
Jacob: And with music videos we make those ourselves, when we’re doing it, we’re trying to have as much as possible and I’m sure that’s an inspiration.
MWN:Tell me about your latest album “Launch Fly Land”, what was some of the inspiration behind it?
Dreamers:
Nick: We wrote it over like two years and we were just being on the road constantly the whole time, we’d be home for five days trying to write five songs
MWN
Dreamers:
The Band Collectively: Die Happy.
Jacob: We all have different ones that we draw ourselves to, I guess. As a whole, this album it’s the most personal the three of us got on anything
MWN:You just recently played Lolapallozza, what was that experience like?
Dreamers:
Jacob: Yep, the second time around, two years later.
Nick: Yeah it was crazy. The first time we were on like a side stage and this time around it was a bigger stage and the crowd was unreal, it’s a special festival, people really go wild in Chicago and it’s always been one of our best cities. It’s kind of a whirlwind. We played two shows that day, did eight interviews then we flew home.
Jacob: There wasn’t even a scheduled time to eat, we came, we played and then we raced to an airport. Then ironically, we got stuck at an airport. Nick: This tour with 311 and Dirty heads
MWN:Is there any particular venue or festival that you would love to play in?
Dreamers:
Jacob: This tour actually kickstarted a lot of that, there was a lot of bucket list places I wanted to play one of them being Red Rocks and we just did that.
Nick: I’ve always wanted to play
MWN:What does an average day on the tour look like for y’all?
Dreamers:
Jacob: Interviewing on a stage haha
Nick: We usually wake up in a hotel, pack our stuff with all our personal items, drive to the location, eat some catering, find out where the bathrooms are, then we build our shows, do soundcheck, and hang out sometimes. Then we play the show and start driving to the next place!
MWN:Lastly, what advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Dreamers:
Nick: I would just say if you want it to be your career you really have to live it 100% of your time. Believe in yourself because if you don’t then you just stopped at the runway.
Nelson: I would say don’t stop believing, hold on to that feeling.
Jacob: If you love it, you’re going to have to sacrifice a lot, but it’s all worth it.
