Electronic music duo, Empire of the Sun played two sold-out shows in Dallas, TX. The Sidney duo is currently on a 21 nights sold-out North American tour celebrating the 10th anniversary of their iconic record, Walking on a Dream.

The venue was so packed it appeared ready to burst at the seams from the overwhelming ecstasy intertwined in the audience, causing people to swoon, minutes leading up to Empire of the Sun taking the stage.

The Australian 5-piece has built up a fan base that follows in massive herds to see them play live, a result of their three full-length albums and 12 years of playing. The stage wrapped in rainbow neon lights had a quite the eccentric set up: lights everywhere, dancers wearing blue skin-like body suits covering their faces, a backing band with headpieces and lights everywhere.

After the long instrumental intro, they dived right in with a crowd favorite from their Walking on a Dream album, “Standing on the Shore.” People up on their feet feelings the radiating waves of 2008 beats. Murmurs of “oh my gosh, “I can’t believe I’m finally hearing this song live” and gasps. intertwined within the crowd. The light show, dancers and energy expanding in the venue lived on until the last note of “Alive” was played.

They took the crowd on a trip back to the past. The late 2000’s when music festivals were not all about Instagram photos and pop tunes were not dominating the chars. The flashback consisted of songs such as: “We Are the People,” “Walking On A Dream” and “DNA.” They also played songs off of their 2016 record, Two Vines. “High and Low’ and “Way to Go” were highlights of the night.

It is safe to say, Wednesday’s night 92- minute set electrified Lamar street, filling the voids of a stressful week with headbanging tunes. Empire of the Sun, at its highest, revived the people of a city that doesn’t sleep.
