Day 2 was also jam packed with a multitude of good music. The day started with a well followed Dallas hip hop artist, So-So Topic. His live performance always consists of high with energy and off the wall flows. Whitney brought out their soothing indie melodies while performing on a make shift raft-stage at The Modern. Another big name performing at Fortress Festival was Slowdive, a shoegazing band from the 90s that finally release new material after 22 years. Their performance was spectacular, the reverb, the feedback, and the distortion brought out what Slowdive is known for. Peter Hook and the Light were also on the bill, they pretty much cover the more famous songs from the discography of New Order and Joy Division. Such songs as “Ceremony,” “Disorder,” and of course “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” were chanted throughout his performance as The Modern glowed in different shades of indigo. The night finally finished off with Purity Ring and their luminous stage production. The fans raved has the lights glimmered and flicked to the motion of the lead singer, Megan James. Overall, the inauguration of the festival was quite the feat. A small, but well packed lineup that could be a prime example for future festivals.
