Grace Potter @ Jannus Live – St. Petersburg, FL (Support: Devon Gilfillian)

A lava lamp, an alien, and a megaphone. What do all of these items have in common? They were part of Grace Potter’s Daylight Tour experience!

Kicking off the show was Devon Gilfillian, fresh off the release of his debut album, Black Hole Rainbow. After starting his set with his huge hit, “Troublemaker,” Devon & his band eased into some other fan favorites, such as “Get Out And Get It” and “Unchained.” His set was so vibrant and energetic that by the time Devon started singing into a small megaphone towards the end, the people in the audience were losing their minds. Everyone was bopping along and really taking in what Devon had to say. In the end, Devon was the epitome of what all up-and-coming artists should be: cool, talented, and full of love. His soulful voice and messages of positivity and love will stay with us until the end of time.

Grace Potter fans were extremely pumped for Grace’s set well before the show began and were even more excited after Devon Gilfillian’s performance. Moments before she came onstage, you could hear people whistling, clapping, and chanting “Grace Potter” as they waited in anticipation for the rock and roll icon. This was an opportune time to also take in some of the more playful aspects of her set design, such as a lava lamp, a huge tapestry displaying a sun, and a small alien action figure that was strapped to one of the drums.

Grace played a mixture of old songs from her former band, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, such as “Ah Mary,” “Never Go Back,” and “Timekeeper.” New songs from her sophomore album were included as well, such as “Repossession,” “Every Heartbeat,” and “On My Way.” It was a truly fascinating performance and you could tell why her fans were so devoted. No matter if she was belting out a gritty rock song, stripping things back to play a more delicate love song, or telling the crowd personal stories about her life and her band mates, everyone was enchanted.
