Music, Why Not!

Half Alive @ The Beacham – Orlando, FL

Formed in 2016, the indie-pop/dance-pop trio has gained a massive following since the release of their first full length album, Now, Not Yet, in 2019. Half Alive played The Beacham in Orlando, FL at the end of February with support from Daisy the Great.

People dotted the entire room, even looking down from the balconies in the Beacham. Before the show began, the crew carried out a rolled up tapestry big enough to cover the entire set. I listened to the chatter of fans who had been waiting around three hours for the doors to open.

Shortly later, the into to “Tip Toes” starts and frontman, Josh Taylor, begins the set behind the tapestry, which allows his silhouette to take over. Not being able to see the band really built up the tension in the room. Towards the end of the son, the tapestry was dropped and the energy was immediately elevated. The monochrome look of the silhouettes quickly turned into neon colors and an electric atmosphere.

Half Alive played fan favorites as well as songs from their new album, Give Me Your Shoulders, such as “Hot Tea” and “Move Me”. Throughout the show, the band surprised me with different acts such as spray painting a tapestry with the words “Give me your shoulders”, interpretive choreography, and poetry. There was never a boring moment, which kept the crowd captivated and energetic.
