Music, Why Not!

Ivory Wave

MWN: Hello guys! We are so stoked to talk to you about your music so thanks so much for taking the time to do this. I guess we shall go back in a time a bit. So for more of a general, but  important questions. A really important aspect of becoming a band is the name. How did the name Ivory Wave come about?

Ivory Wave: Basically George & Luke were out one night, and one of the lads they were with mentioned it in conversation and we just latched onto it, thought it sounded like a decent name for a band

MWN: Well it does. It is not hard to pronounce and it’s catchy! So how did you guys come together to create music?

Ivory Wave: Me (George) & Luke both joined a different band at the time, after 1 gig with them we decided to do our own thing, both kept sending different ideas to each other that wouldn’t of worked with the other band

MWN: Ah so it was really natural for you guys to become a band. Well I know releasing music is a big deal. So much hard work goes into it. I know you guys just released “Separate Beat.” So what does it mean for you guys to release new music? and what is the creation process like from composing the songs to the recording of them?

Ivory Wave: Other than playing live its our favorite thing, releasing new music. We love the excitement of having something finished and getting it judged by people who haven’t heard it yet. 9/10 the music will come first, then I’ll sit and write my lyrics afterwards or have bits that I’ve been writing. Then we get the basic recordings down, drums, bass, guitar then just experiment with sounds etc.

MWN:  What I love about your music is that it is upbeat it is like those tunes that trigger something in your body to where you just want to get up and dance and have a good time. Actually, one of my favorite songs that you guys have released is “Club.” Do you guys mind telling me a little bit more about this? (I love the chorus in particular and the melody of the song is impressively catchy!)

Ivory Wave: Club basically started from Luke & Seb, jamming that groove for and playing about with chord changes. then rob put his synth over the top, and connor played along, by the time they had what they were playing set in stone I had the lyrics written. The next practice we started recording it, just happened really fast. Still our favorite song to play live

MWN: I bet the crowd reacts to it really well. Like I said it is such a catchy tune. Well if you guys had to describe your sound how would you guys describe it?

Ivory Wave: Such a hard question, gigslutz described us as contagious acid house indie you can dance to and we loved that so yeah i’d go for that.

MWN: Ha, That’s a good way to put it!, but hey it is true! So it looks like we have a couple of minutes for a few more questions. These next ones are going to be a little more more fun! Alright so for me there are artist I wish I could have been able to see perform live- such as John Lennon or The Doors. So for you guys who would be an artist you would have liked to have seen live?

Ivory Wave: The Clash N.W.A The Beatles 9

MWN: Good pick! So this next one is super hard. Top Three favorite songs of all time?

Ivory Wave: Underworld – “Born Slippy” Edwyn Collins – “Never Met a Girl Like You Before” Oasis – “Boneheads Bank Holiday.”

MWN: “Boneheads Bank Holiday” would also be in my top three. So I know you guys have played a fare share of gigs. So how do you pass the time between gigs?

Ivory Wave: We usually just drink because there isn’t much else to do, we just have to make sure we stay focused and not just turn it into one big piss up.

MWN: Well once again thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions! Looks like we have room for one more question. As we finish of the interview what is something you would like to tell people here in the states that might not have heard your music before- or that are now just getting into your music?

Ivory Wave: We love America, and one of our dreams would be to tour there in the future. So spread the word about  us and share our music with as many people as you can because its only the music lovers  that can really can make a difference.
