Jukebox the Ghost just released their new single “Cheers” and celebrated with a tour. This tour rolled through Atlanta, GA on October 2nd at Terminal West. The three piece performed as a two piece due to guitarist, Tommy Siegel, being in quarantine because of a positive Covid test. The rest of the band and crew have tested negative, so they felt it was safe to continue on. Since it came down to pianist and lead vocalist, Ben Thornwell, and drummer Jesse Kristin, they had to get a little creative. Ben asked the crowd to say the word “meow” with him instead of the guitar solos that usually take place.
The show was opened by Canadian band Fleece. They were welcomed on stage by someone in the crowd holding up a sign saying “Fleece is the bees knees”. This made the band very happy and got them in a good mood before popping off. Lots of good energy and chats between songs that left everyone laughing, Fleece was incredible.
Besides some antics like the meowing and some goofy back and forth between Ben and Jesse, the band played hits like “Colorful” and “Girl”. The crowd kept up with the band’s energy with simple clap alongs as well and yelling the lyrics back. The night was full of bopping, smiles, and surprises to keep it interesting.
Jesse went off stage for a song so that Ben could do a rare piano version of it and then came back up to sing a bit on his own. At one point, Thornwell pulled out his keytar and walked along the stage which got the crowd hyped. Fleece came back on stage to help with a cover of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” at the end which got the energy high right before closing out the set. A mixup in the lineup did not hinder the night as Jukebox the Ghost brought a special show to the fans who showed up in Atlanta.
