Multi award winning English indie rock band from Leeds, Kaiser Chiefs played tonight in the M&S Bank Arena, Liverpool, as part of their “All Together Tour” 2022. I hoped for a night full of hits and great fun. The first band opening for them was The Sherlocks, the Boys from Yorkshire presented themselves very well to the amassed Liverpool crowd. They played songs from their three albums and finished the set with their biggest hit ‘Chasing Shadows’.
Next on the bill were The Fratellis, a Scottish rock band from Glasgow. The band appeared on stage with extra musicians playing trumpet and saxophone as well as three girls on backing vocals. They gave almost an hour-long performance, and they were excellent. We heard songs like ‘Henrietta’, ‘Chelsea Dagger’, a fantastic version of the Baccara cover ‘Yes Sir I Can Boogie’ and ‘We Need Medicine’, just to name the few of the tunes. The Fratelis did a great job and left the crowd red hot for the hitmakers from Leeds.
Finally, after a short wait the Kaiser Chiefs appeared on the stage of the Liverpool arena. They started with the song ‘Born to be a Dancer’ with frontman Ricky Wilson singing high above the stage with a giant moon behind him. Later, we heard songs like ‘Na Na Na Na Naa’, ‘Never Miss a Beat’, ‘Heat Dies Down’ and their new single, released on 4th of November, ‘How 2 Dance’. Ricky was very lively, constantly running across the stage and his contact with the audience is phenomenal! He is a real frontman.
Next, we heard an acoustic mini set with songs ‘Coming home’, ‘Love’s Not a Competition’ and ‘Northern Holiday’.
Then came the hit, ‘Ruby’ and the arena went absolutely nuts! People were jumping up and down and everyone was singing along with the band. Songs like ‘Hole in my Soul’ and ‘Misery Company’ continued to sustain the crowds’ levels of excitement. Next song was ‘I Predict the Riot’ and we witnessed a red hot mosh pit, beer bombs and the crowd singing every word of the lyrics. The crowd’s favourite song of the show for sure! After the song ‘Angry Mob’ the musicians left the stage only to appear once again for an encore a few minutes later and to treat us with two final songs. The Kaiser Chiefs finished the gig with ‘People Know How To Love One Another’ and ‘Oh My God I Can’t Believe It’. A great way and fantastic tunes to finish off a Thursday evening, I hoped for a night full of hits and great fun and I was not disappointed.
