Lala Lala hit the Lodge Room on October 13th for a record release show of her wonderful new LP I Want The Door To Open.

This was a homecoming show of sorts for Lala Lala’s Lillie West, as she spent her teenage years and after in Los Angeles. You could certainly tell by her interactions with the crowd and the enthusiasm that there was something special about the night.

Opening for Lala Lala were Fashion Club and a DJ set by Baths.  West collaborated with Baths on the 2020 single “€ € € €^^%%!!!!!heaven!!!!!!”.  When West finally took the stage, she ran through her new album like it had been out for years.  This record certainly has a cleaner (and more experimental) sound than her previous efforts, but the sticky melodies and gorgeous vocal performances are still there.

West also touched on some tracks from her previous records, including 2018’s wonderful The Lamb.  That was one of my favorite records of the year, so I was thrilled to hear some of those tunes live.

The night concluded with a roaring cheer for one of Los Angeles’ own. West is off to New York and then lots of Europe next year to continue her ascent into an indie rock household name.  This was a pretty good start.
