Music, Why Not!

Less Than Jake and Pepper @ The Mohawk- Austin

Less Than Jake and Pepper brought their Co-Headlining tour to the Mohawk in Austin, Texas. The venue was packed with over 100 middle-aged men and women to see their favorite childhood punk rock band. Originally from Hawaii, but now based in San Diego, Pepper opened the night for headliner Less Than Jake. Influenced by Three Plus and Sublime, Pepper brought a mix of their own Reggae music to Austin. The band is celebrating 10 years of their fourth album and their major label debut of No Shame. Pepper performed quite a few songs off that album including “No Control,” “Your Face,” “Nice Time,” and “Like Your Style.” Never having heard much of Pepper before their performance, I was really impressed with the sound and energy they brought to the stage.  The crowd seemed to really enjoy themselves and about half of the people in attendance were there for Pepper. Headlining the show for the night was American ska punk band Less Than Jake. A sea of middle-aged men in their late 20s and early 30s rushed the stage to get a little closer to the guys of Less Than Jake. As the band got on stage to perform confetti blasted all over the crowd, which got them hype, as that’s what confetti does to fans during live shows. It was a night full of mosh pitting, crowd surfing and head banging for all fans in attendance. One lucky fan, Peyton, got invited to go onstage with the band and it just happened to be his birthday and he got to drink and take shots with the band. They told many jokes during the night about how ugly they were and how much they sucked. It was a night of humor as many fans enjoyed their performance and jokes throughout the night. They performed some of their hit songs such as “The Science of Selling Yourself Short,” and “All My Best friends Are Metalheads,” and ‘The Rest of My Life.” Less Thank Jake and Pepper have a long road ahead of them as they will continue their Co-Headlining Tour through the United States and a stop in the UK in May.
