Where do you go when you need your dose of live music? Deep Ellum in Dallas, TX is definitely the place to be. It has become such an iconic place for musicians. In almost every bar and venue you are sure to find a new amazing band with some electrifying tunes. Local bands dominate filling almost every bar on Friday and Saturday nights. There is a good chance you will fall in love with the grungy vibe Deep Ellum has to offer. Walls stamped with colorful murals, people walking everywhere, art vendors on the side of streets, and important venues such as The Bomb Factory and Trees are sure to have a big class act perform.
There was a variety of amazing artist performing the Friday night of the 18th of November, among those artist was an all girl Indie Rock band known as Warpaint. The historical venue (Hello, Nirvana performed there once) Trees was packed- that is always a sign there is a good band performing, and so was the case Friday night. Warpaint took the stage around 10:30pm. They played songs from their previous albums and their new album Heads Up. What a thrill it is to witness girl power on stage. The Indie Rock band from Los Angeles consists of: Emily Kokal (vocals, guitar, keyboards, electronics), Theresa Wayman (vocals, guitar, synthesizer, drums), Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass, vocal),
Stella Mozgawa (drums, keyboards, backing vocals). Their unique sound mixed with eccentric guitar solos, groovy beats, soft vocals, catchy bass lines, and clean drum tracks made for a smooth and exciting performance. The lights during the performance where amazing. Apart from the instrumental and vocals, they helped paint the songs (mostly consisting of foggy blues, pink, and orange lights). Their performance was intimate- both Emily and Theresa interacted with the excited crowd members. One could hear the echo of everyone singing together from outside. What an amazing crowd may I add. Warpaint “painted” and exciting performance with their radiating music and it is well worth it to see them perform live.
