You know those rare moments when you experience something so magical, it just HAS to have been from another world? Maggie Rogers live is one of those experiences. Light took a human form from the heavens as Rogers kicked off her Heard It in a Past Life Tour in Portland the other night. She started off the performance behind a curtain, with light bouncing back and forth that created the feeling that she was a spirit trying to communicate to the outside world, done alongside a gorgeous rendition of “Color Song”. Rogers continued with heavy hitter “Fallingwater”, which is a very clearly a fan favorite from the way it magnetized the crowd to watch every move she took, shrouded in fabric that can only be described as her angel wings. “Light On”, Rogers’ currently highest charting song according to her iTunes profile, took us home and reminded me of the otherworldly feeling that one gets at a concert, when everyone is just in the moment belting the words the music being play.

Rogers truly delivered a dazzling performance. Her passion and honesty can be felt through each move she takes and every note she sings, from the lows in “Past Life” to the swelling drums in “Burning”. Whoever the light technician is for this tour knows how to showcase Rogers’ artistic prowess, because the light arrangements bathed her in a heavenly glow that makes it feel like the heavens have opened up in front of you.

Now, Now; Rogers’ tour companion until they reach Ohio, showed us that they have earned their spot playing alongside her. Frontwoman KC Dalager combined her neon pink hair with bright pink lights making her look as if she had just been beamed down by a spaceship. The band did not disappoint and delivered a performance that was out of this world. The mood can only be accredited to the sound of their new single, “Enda”, which possesses the same kind of alien feeling that made their performance so hypnotizing. Rousing the crowd to their feet at a seated venue at the moment the acts came out on stage, the Heard It in a Past Life Tour is off to an electric start.
