Music, Why Not!

Marina @ Bayou Music Center – Houston, TX

Marina brought her “Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land” tour to Houston and wow was it an incredible show.

Doors opened at 7pm and immediately fans ran to their seats, they were so excited to finally be inside the venue getting closer and closer to seeing one of their favorite artists. It was nice seeing everyone take photos with their VIP merch, friends etc, it shows how much Marina has brought people together.

Punk rock group Pussy Riot was the opener for the show. They were on stage playing multiple different songs, even covering some Britney Spears and the fans went absolutely wild. There was a lot of mic swinging, dancing, and fan interaction. The entire crowd really vibed with the artist and constantly cheered them on through the set.

It was finally time for the show to start, the stage was covered in red lights and Marina came out and opened with “Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land”, immediately the crowd went wild and started singing word by word. Many people had last seen the artist in 2019 during the Love + Fear tour, including myself, so seeing her come out once again brought back excitement for everyone. The lights then turned green and started singing “Venus Fly Trap”, which fit the vibes of the song title, she then continued to sing one of my personal favorite songs “Froot”. Marina made a small speech and thanked everyone for coming out to the show. She told everyone to enjoy the night, let loose and have as much fun as possible in the next hour.

She resumed the show singing songs from her earlier albums, Electra Heart and The Family Jewels, such as “Oh No”, “Hollywood”, “I am not a Robot”. There was a point during the show where she brought out the opener, Pussy Riot and performed the song “Purge the Poison” together, it was very cool to see both artists sharing the stage. There were times throughout the night where Marina slowed down the show and got on the piano and sang songs like “Happy”, for slower songs, the fans were definitely singing their hearts out.

As the night was coming to an end Marina performed more fan favorites including: “How to be a Heartbreaker” and “Bubblegum Bitch”. She performed the “last” song of the night “Goodbye” and thanked everyone for coming out and exited the stage. She later came back to perform an encore and the show ended with the song “Primadonna”, a fan favorite and the fans went absolutely wild. Everyone, including myself, sang the song to the top of our lungs as we enjoyed our last moments of the night. Marina and her band bowed to us and gave us one final goodbye. This show was definitely one of my favorite ones of the year. If Marina ever comes to a city near you, do yourself a favor and attend!
