Metric has put out the cool-toned song of the summer, “Dressed to Suppress.” They are using modern day influences and expanded their musical output into something highly relatable and jammable.

The band is currently touring with Smashing Pumpkins across the United States. They are gaining traction here, and I am ecstatic to see them succeed in the music market. They are highly addicting, showing up on a lot of playlists I’ve made for friends.

“Dressed to Suppress” tells the tale of dating in the modern age, and all of the mischievous and systematic ways we follow as a society. The opening is a dreamy sequence into the guitar riffs that follow soon after. It’s as if you are dreaming the song yourself, then it immediately brings you into head banging and letting yourself go.

It is incredibly relatable and could be played anywhere. The song itself is hypnotizing, transporting you into their world with love and trial and error. This is due to the synth used in all of the right places. Metric only gets better with each song they put out, and I’m lucky to have the opportunity to listen to them time and time again.

Lead singer Emily Haines describes the song as being in love and everything that follows. The differences in the verses and the chorus are the like the dramatic differences one can experience in love. “…when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, the push and pull of retaining our own identities in love.”

If the song sounds appealing to you, you can check out the recently released music video here. It is black and white and almost has a home video type of vibe to it. The video compliments the song by making it that much more humble approach, relating to those lost in love.

Their new album is coming out September 21st, less than two months away from now. You can catch their last single they released, “Dark Saturday” on any music streaming platform.

As they are touring the world, you can catch them on their headlining tour this fall. I wish I was still in London so I’d be able to catch them play a show at O2 Forum Kentish Town. It’s a great venue, decently sized to enjoy music with a crowd of people, and the acoustics are some of the best I have heard.  They don’t disappoint and it won’t be a show to miss.

Check them out on their headline tour dates in the UK:

November

Sat 17th BIRMINGHAM, O2 Institute 2

Sun 18th GLASGOW, Queen Margaret Union

Mon 19th MANCHESTER, O2 Ritz

Tues 20th LONDON, O2 Kentish Town Forum
