Music, Why Not!

Michael Kiwanuka @ Jacaranda Baltic – Liverpool, U.K.

On the evening of November 24th 2024, the talented singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka graced the stage at Jacaranda Baltic in Liverpool for an unique, stripped back performance to promote his latest album ‘Small changes’. The intimate venue provided the perfect setting for Kiwanuka’s soulful and captivating music.

Record shop Jacaranda Baltic is based in old Cains Brewery. This majestic complex of buildings was constructed in 1858. Brewery itself closed in 2013 and is now used as entertaining venue with range of bars, restaurants, food hall and events space. It is attracting crowds of Liverpudlians on daily basis and if you want to eat well or have few drinks and party this is the place to go.

From the moment he stepped on the stage, Kiwanuka’s presence commanded the attention of the audience. His smooth vocals and intricate guitar playing immediately drew listeners in, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere that held everyone in rapt attention throughout the evening.

The gig started with ‘Lowdown (part 1)’ thrilled crowd listened to this wonderful song in complete silence. The winner of the BBC’s Sound of… in 2012 and  the Mercury Prize in 2020 greeted public and explained that he will be mainly playing songs from the few album and perform old songs towards the  end of the gig which should satisfy all present.

We later heard ‘Floating Parade’, ‘One and Only’, interestingly the music video to the song was directed by Barack Obama’s daughter Malia, followed by ‘Rebel Soul’ and ‘Small Changes’. The soulful sounds of the Artist filled the intimate space of the music record shop. The British singer-songwriter captivated the audience with his smooth vocals and heartfelt lyrics, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere that transported everyone to a place of pure musical bliss.

Next, Michael presented better known songs and from now on the crowd was fully engaged with Kiwanuka’s performance, swaying, and singing along to every song. The energy in the room was distinguishable, with fans clearly moved by the soulful melodies and heartfelt lyrics that Kiwanuka delivered with such sincerity.

We could hear following songs ‘Light’ from album ‘Kiwanuka’, ‘Tell me a tell’ from debut album ‘Home again’ realised back in 2012, ‘the rest of me’ and at the end, fans favourite ‘Cold Little Heart’. Michael Kiwanuka’s performance at Jacaranda was a truly remarkable experience. His soulful music and captivating stage presence left a lasting impression on all in attendance, solidifying his reputation as one of the most talented artists in the industry today.
