Indie band Mother Mother and solo project Cavetown partnered together for a tremendous co-headlining tour featuring support from pop-punk band Meet Me @ the Altar.

Starting off the night at 713 Music Hall was pop-punk band Meet Me @ the Altar. The band consists of lead singer Edith Mata, drummer Ada Juarez and guitarist Téa Campbell. Mata initially stated that Campbell was down with a cold, replacing her with their alternate guitarist. The band performed all of their hits such as “Say It To My Face,” “Now or Never,” and “T.M.I.” Mata shouted out the gay people in the crowd, taking into account that it was pride month. The pop-punk trio ended their energetic opening set with “Kool.”

Robbie Skinner, also known for their stage name Cavetown, took the stage soon after. The stage resembled a colorful and majestic forest, including Skinner’s performance platform that was in the shape of a giant mushroom. The singer walked on stage and started off their set with “Let Them Know They’re On Your Mind,” followed by “1994” and “Heart Attack.” Skinner had an immaculate stage presence, as he encouraged fans to throw gifts on stage and jumped all over the stage while interacting with fans in the crowd. Fans threw pride flags on stage, in which Skinner picked up and tied around their mic stand. 

“We’re gonna get a bit sad” said the singer before performing “Pigeon” and “Lemon Boy.” To bring the mood up, Skinner had an assistant dressed as a frog bring them their synthesizer in preparation of their song “frogs.” Later in the set, another fan threw the transgender flag on stage, in which Skinner picked up and began to dedicate the song “Home” to their fellow trans people, dedicating it to those who truly feel at home. The fans sang back to Cavetown, making it an emotional portion of the set. Skinner ended the set with “Boys Will Be Bugs” and “Devil Town,” as they continued to claim how much they love Houston and their fans. 

Mother Mother ended the explosive night in Houston, as Cavetown did an amazing job at filling the room with love and energy. Formed in 2005, Mother Mother is a Canadian-based indie band that consists of siblings Ryan and Molly Guldemond, and members Ali Siadat, Jasmin Parkin and Mike Young. The band opened their set with “Nobody Escapes,” “Arms Tonite” and “Hayloft II,” each song setting up the scene for the remainder of the night. While the band has been around since 2005, they became more well-known in 2020 after multiple songs from their album O My Heart became popular on the TikTok platform. The band performed songs like “Verbatim” and “Wrecking Ball,” in which fans screamed the lyrics at the top of their lungs. 

On top of performing eclectic versions of their originals, Mother Mother also performed songs mixed in with unique covers. As the band performed “The Matrix,” they included a cover of “Where Is My Mind?” by the Pixies. They did a similar transition with their hit song “Hayloft,” as they added a mix of Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games.”
