It was a chill night, even though the weather was warm. Kicking off this night of ease and togetherness was Mystic Grizzly, who is known for enchanting his fans with carefully crafted, mindful beats. The 22-year old DJ took everyone to another planet, immersing them with tracks that had robotic bleeps and bloops or made references to the stars and our existence. Each time he transitioned into a new section of music, the crowd would praise him with random exclamations, such as “Woo” or “Yes!” He concluded his set by playing guitar with the Manifest Gang, who performed “From Dark to Light” and “Journey to My Mind.”
When Papadosio took the stage, they formed a unique stage set-up that consisted of a semi-circle. While it seemed a little unconventional, it definitely helped give off a familial vibe, as I could picture them jamming out at home in the same set-up. The five-member jam band played a variety of old and new favorites, such as “The Lack of Everything,” “Garden,” and “Pool of Stars.” Their diverse blend of jazz and electronic music made you feel as if you were in a small jazz club one second and at an 80s disco the next. It was hard to tell who was having more fun: the band or the fans. Both parties were invested in each note of each song, with the fans giving thumbs-ups and nods of approvals in between dance moves. If you are in for a feeling of escapism, definitely check out either of these artists; your cares will just melt away.
