The combination of indie and electronic music sound as weird as syrup and eggs, but just like the food, The Naked and the Famous combine these two genres to make an addicting sound. Since their formation in 2007, the band has released multiple EP’s and three studio albums: Passive Me, Aggressive You (2010), In Rolling Waves (2013), and Simple Forms (2016). Their first studio album led them to not only be nominated for BBC’s Sound of 2011 poll, but also receive six nominations at the New Zealand Music Awards for the Album of the Year, Single of the Year, Best Group, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Best Alternative Album, and the People’s Choice Award. During 2012, they decided to settle in Los Angeles after their first album tour.
Their main goal for their second album was to produce an album that they could perform live without depending on any back tracks. They released their single “Heart Like Ours” and the release date for their new album In Rolling Waves. The Naked and Famous have won a whopping 11 out of 16 awards that they’ve been nominated for. Their popularity continues to grow: performing at Coachella, being featured on the Wanderland Music and Arts Festival in the Philippines, TV shows, TV commercials, films, movie trailers, and even American Idol auditions. A lot of their songs, like “Young Blood,” give off a chill yet banging vibe. Upon listening to the song, you can instantly imagine a slow-mo montage of you and your friends driving in the summer, sticking your heads out of the windows, laughing at the smallest things, enjoying your youth. Their new album features a blend of summer-vibes, heart-deep emotions, calm feelings, and body-bopping songs all at the same time. Whether you’re listening to it while doing work or while partying, their album is versatile enough to fit in with multiple instances. They mixed the album with lyrical focus, instrumental focus, and so many unique sounds that their songs are worthy enough for any bystanders.
