Music, Why Not!

Oliver Tree @ Shrine Auditorium – Los Angeles

The one-of-a-kind Oliver Tree touched down last Saturday at the Shrine in Los Angeles with one of the most unique shows you’ll ever see.

Tree is a 28-year-old artist from Santa Cruz whose genre-bending music and shape-shifting aesthetic has developed quite a following.  His latest effort is called Cowboy Tears and came out just one day before the show.  With this release, his look as evolved with a new signature blonde mullet that you can see from across the venue.  Even without the music, the show was quite a spectacle.

When the music started, though, Tree lived up to his lofty expectations.  He played a long 21-song set, including changing clothes multiple times, bringing out the enigmatic Little Ricky ZR3, and debuting a handful of songs live.  At one point he even brought out a hollow cow on wheels to sit on while performing.

All of this was absolutely adored by his devoted following; you never knew what to expect and the show flew by because of it.  Tree ended his show with an encore of “I’m Gone” and a reprise of “Alien Boy” from earlier in the show. The latter felt like a “thank you” to all of his old fans surely in the crowd and all of his new fans that are right around the corner.
