Music, Why Not!

Second Sky Festival | Days 1 + 2 @ Oakland Arena Grounds – Oakland, California

Second Sky Festival took place this past weekend September 18-19 at the Oakland Arena parking lot and provided fans two days of amazing music from the host, Porter Robinson, as well as acts such as: Madeon, Jai Wolf, Toro Y Moi, Jon Hopkins, Jacob Collier, Knower, Wavedash and the Air 2 Earth project by Porter, this was an event you did not want to miss.

Over 40,000 fans waited 2 year for this festival after the pandemic caused the event to be postponed. The event required a negative covid test or proof of vaccination. They also allowed fans to get tested at the event and highly encouraged the usage of masks throughout the day, it was something that made everyone feel safe considering what is currently going on in the world.

Once you entered the festival you were greeted with many different things to do. You could go in and get in line to get some merchandise, fill up your camelbak with water in the hydration stations, take pictures at the installations or try and pick a good place to eat from that was carefully curated by Porter himself. There was so much to do and it added to the wonderful experience of the festival.

Every single act who took the festival stage gave 110% to their performances and left everyone begging for more, the two acts I was excited to see the most were Madeon and Porter Robinson. Madeon started his set with one of my personal favorite songs “All My Friends”. The whole crowd cheered for him while singing his songs word by word and embracing each other as this song was playing. Madeons visuals were also out of this world, he was giving different poses (providing beautiful silhouettes for photos), singing and taking complete ownership of the stage. Seeing this production got me excited for what is yet to come on his Good Faith Forever Tour.

Porter debuted his Nurture live show and it was such an amazing thing to see. The song “Look at the Sky” was playing while fireworks would blast in the background. The audience would sing along and just be mesmerized by the production and fireworks. The moon also brought the show together, it was a full moon shining bright on stage right and everyone was admiring it and taking photos and videos while Porter was playing. It was such a magical moment that brought everyone together, especially while “Look at the Sky” was playing. Porter then played fan favorite “Shelter” and it instantly hyped up the entire crowd, there’s nothing more beautiful than seeing fans from all over the world singing in unison and embracing each other. Porter was constantly thanking fans for coming out to the festival and supporting his music, he even gave a shout out to his mom and girlfriend throughout the show.

The festival ended with a huge amount of fireworks which left the audience in awe. You could see fans crying and cheering as the event wrapped up, showing how much everyone loved the event. As everyone was leaving the venue, you could hear them already making them plans for the festival in 2022. Porter is set to start his tour this fall, check out the tour dates below, his show is something that can not be missed.
