Music, Why Not!

Sir Chloe @ The Regent Theatre – Los Angeles, CA

After 16 action-packed shows all across America, Sir Chloe concluded their North American tour in Los Angeles at the Regent Theater this past Saturday night. I was absolutely buzzing to finally see this band live in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, and a line of fans that wrapped the building were just as excited as I was.

The first to hit the stage was Sam Austins, who provided energetic indie sounds to start the night. The crowd was absolutely devouring the Detroit native’s set, either singing along to the words or simply vibing to the music in preparation for the headliner. Austins performed some of his hits, such as “DRIFTING AWAY” and “Dancing With the Devil”.  Austins even brought the crowd together to teach them the chorus of his unreleased song, and had everyone in the room singing “sad queen” to the tune of Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)”. He thanked everyone for being there as this was the first time he had performed to a crowd so large, and thanked the headliners Sir Chloe for having him out, before being joined on stage by a pink-wig sporting Dana Foote, for their song together “JOY FOR YOUTH”.  His energy was the perfect match for the lineup, and everyone in the room was electrified after his set. Prior to this show I hadn’t heard of Sam Austins, but after the intoxicating performance I definitely became a new member of his fan base.

Next up was Miya Folick, who started her set with an unfortunate tuning mishap, but quickly recovered and made a witty note about how she was proud of herself for catching it and being able to recognize that she, in fact, was not playing an A minor. Miya’s blend of powerful, growling vocals and relatable lyrics had fans screaming out “I love you!” in between every song. Like Austins, Miya thanked the headliners for inviting her out last minute, as she has currently been struggling with not being able to stand herself lately, and exclaimed that we can now all share not being able to stand her together. Miya ripped through her performance with each song more captivating than the last, but came to a quick halt in the middle of her set, stopping the show to make sure the group next to me was okay, as one of their members was struggling due to the heat in the room and lack of water. Every person in the venue was making sure anyone they came with were okay, and Miya made it a point to mention how wonderful it was to see everyone taking care of each other- which immediately humanized her and gained her even more respect from the audience. Once Folick’s 30 minute set was over, everyone found themselves wanting more, and the energy in the room was incredibly high in anticipation for Sir Chloe next.

Just past 10:15pm, each instrumental member of Sir Chloe entered the stage in all white, as the ethereal front woman, Dana Foote, graced the stage in a black suit and wig of her own hair, as they fell into the first song of the night. The crowd immediately started singing the lyrics back towards the band, and you could feel the vibe of the entire room shift and heighten as fans celebrated the opportunity to see their favorite band. Their energy was something I truly have not seen in a long time, and it was a breath of fresh air watching the members head bang and jump around to the music, as fans in the crowd did the same. Sir Chloe played some unreleased music such as “Daddy’s Cum” as well as some of their TikTok-viral-smashes such as “Michelle” and “Animal”, and I watched the girl to the right of me livestream the songs to her own TikTok following, ensuring no one would be left behind from the lively show. Bass player, Emma Welch, took a moment in the middle of the set to make sure everyone was doing okay and handed out some water to those in need, before finishing off the rest of their set list, only for the crowd to erupt for them to come back on. Sir Chloe officially concluded the night in a multiple song encore, finishing with “Too Close” singing the very fitting words, “I think it’s time for you to go”. Between the top notch energy, hauntingly brilliant vocals, witty stage banter, and crowd presence, Sir Chloe brought to the stage one of the best and most unique performances I have ever seen. Although this tour has come to a close, I am more than eager to catch another one of their sets, and I would highly recommend to anyone in search of their new favorite band to check them out.
