Music, Why Not!

Spanish Love Songs @ Club Academy – Manchester, U.K.

Out of Los Angeles, Spanish Love Songs came to Manchester, on their biggest UK headline tour since their formation. With support from SUDS and Heart Attack Man.

I thoroughly enjoyed SUDS. Their sound is phenomenal. Maisie Carter’s voice is incredible, it’s a sharp contrast between her light and airy voice that could belong on a Phoebe Bridgers track, to the modern rock of the band behind her. I’m excited to see them grow. I don’t think there could have been a better addition to the tour, with SUDS having this airy but grungy feel about their music but when you listen close to the lyrics. “Paint my Body” was the highlight of the set for me. Being full of nuance and vulnerability, very much complimenting Spanish Love Songs.

Heart Attack Man took us back to the era of mid-noughties punk, they reminded me a lot like Weezer and Blink 182, but have lyrical lessons on modern life, they definitely had a stage presence, I could barely catch Eric whilst photographing them.  All three bands compliment each other beautifully.

Led by vocalist Dylan Slocum, Spanish Love Songs explore themes of heartbreak and disillusionment. And self discovery in a way that resonates a lot with their fans, myself included.  They tell tales of Love, Loss and Addiction these are the hardest parts of people lives and that’s what was joined the crowd together, singing the choruses of “Bellyachethe lyrics aren’t just words to a song but they are this narrative of the complexity of modern existence and you can really grasp that the members of the band have been through some hardship in the past I think that was makes the bands fans so fond of the music they produce they can relate to. The show was incredibly memorable, and if they come to a city near you make sure to attend, it’s a show you won’t want to miss!
