Strange Foliage – Settle

IMG_1816

Dark Matter label  has just brewed up a hot debut album by Strange Foliage. Led by Joey Cantacessi, the soloist along with his friends have just only given us a taste of their music with their one track titled “Take Care” back in 2017.  Now, prepare yourself for their full debut album: Settle

Opening with “See is Red” its  subtle guitar line slowly draws you in and builds itself into tones of classic garage rock. The high fuzz continues to seep itself throughout the majority of the album. Reminiscent of acts such as FIDLAR,  the melodies of the songs on Settle have tempos that are inducing of headbanging and possibly the desire of wanting to act-out.  “I Want To Book Your Band” serves as a sort of intermission between the mood of the songs. It’s commercial-like nature has listeners not knowing what exactly to expect next of the album. Whether it was purposely placed to demonstrate an outlook towards making it in the music business or wanting to have a sarcastic and comedic outlook on the process of booking shows, it’s a statement. “Genuflect” solidifies their chosen position and servility is not an option. Closing with “In Decay”, the song has a darker feel to it from the rest. “You got me so low, till I can’t feel no more.” Driven by the saturated distortion of the guitar, the sound itself reflects the title by giving it the feeling of an unavoidable combustion. It’s angry, it’s loud, most importantly: epic.
