Tame Impala brought their “Slow Rush Tour” to the lawn at White Oak Music Hall and this was a show that should not have been missed. Fans were lined outside the venue for hours waiting to get a good spot during the sold out show, it was something I’ve never seen before at this venue, it just shows how much Houston fans love the band.
Following the tragic event that happened at Astroworld (where the band was supposed to perform as well), this show felt completely safe from the moment you lined up to get in the venue, to when you were inside. Police were present throughout the venue making sure everything was running smoothly, security and lines were highly organized, and the staff was making sure vaccination cards/negative covid test, ID’s and bags were all thoroughly checked, masks were highly encouraged.
Sudan Archives opened the show and everyone was stunned by her act. She sang, danced and impressed everyone with her violin skills, fans spoke amongst each other saying “wow, she’s hyping me up for the main act”. It was finally time for Tame Impala to come on stage and once they did, the crowd went absolutely wild. They started their set with “One More Year” and my personal favorite song “Borderline”. They went on to perform more songs before they took a small break, spoke to the crowd and thanked them for being at the show. The band also expressed their condolences to what happened at the Astroworld event, where they were supposed to perform. Kevin Parker encouraged his fans to take care of each other throughout the night, and he also said that he will be taking care of them as well.
There were many times throughout the show where myself, and the fans were left speechless watching the band. During the song “Elephant”, an amazing laser show was displayed across the venue, all the fans gasped as they sang their hearts out and watched what was being displayed in front of them. During “New Person, Same Old Mistakes” and “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” confetti cannons went off and the entire venue was full of confetti. Fans screamed in excitement, you could see them film videos and take photos to remember the moment.
When the band played “The Less I Know The Better” everyone in the venue screamed in excitement. They sang the lyrics word by word with their friends and were happy to be in the moment since it is a fan favorite song. The show ended with “One More Hour” and everyone was sad that the show was over, but happy that they attended. Parker said that he can’t wait to come back to Houston and play more shows for us in the future. If you have not seen Tame Impala before, make sure you attend one of their shows, it will be a great experience that will leave you with great memories.
