The Marías are a duo that ooze with notions of intimacy and desire. Opening with the bouncy “I Like It” the LA group from start to finish created an atmosphere of pure grooves. Lead vocalist María Conway’s voice is very dream-like which emphasizes the sultry behind the production of the band. “I Don’t Know You” is probably the most sexiest song off of their EP “Superclean Vol I”. From where I stood at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago, I could see couples grooving along and getting down to the alluring vibes. The aesthetic of the band is very lush and laid back. Their repertoire consist of a blend of English and Spanish lyrics. Closing with “Déjate Llevar” she sings “Let yourself go, I can love you.” Maria expresses her love to her partner and drummer Josh Conway. Being a couple that records together, listeners can really get a sense of the intimacy they’ve created with their music. Although having a shorter set, the crowd was begging for more.
