Together Pangea @ The Regent – Los Angeles, California

The Rengent Theater saw Together Pangea come to town on Friday night for a raucous set of scuzzy garage punk and memorable covers.

The night opened with Skating Polly and Tropa Magica; the latter of which seemed to have a pretty passionate following within the Together Pangea crowd. My Spanish is a little rusty, but their killer, sticky riffs and colorful performance was a perfect prelude to LA’s own Together Pangea.

TP hit the stage and immediately started ripping through hits from across their catalog. Many songs, of course, came from their excellent 2021 record DYE.  But if Badillac was more to your liking, you were in luck. The title track from that record and “Too Drunk to Come” from their beloved Living Dummy were two huge standouts.  Elsewhere on the setlist, the Angelino audience was treated to a guest vocal appearance from a bandmate’s wife and two amazing covers. The first, a cover of the classic Rolling Stones song “Dead Flowers”, was dedicated to William Keegan’s (the lead singer) dad.  It was a sweet moment and a nice mid-tempo breather.  Next was a cover of The Flaming Lips’s 1993 quirky sing-along “She Don’t Use Jelly”.  After heading back into their own catalog, the band ended with one of their all-time thrashers “Sick Shit”.  The opening riff immediately catapulted audience members to perpetually crowd surf for the tracks entire 4+ minutes runtime.
