Music Why Not! got to chat with Vinyl Theatre, the indie rock band from Wisconsin, for a few minutes about the good, the bad and the weird about life on the road. Read on as we discuss their favorite podcasts, some fun facts and more.
MWN: What’s been the weirdest moment on tour for you guys so far?
Vinyl Theatre: Randomly seeing 40 stray cats at a gas station in Oklahoma, for sure.
MWN: What’s your favorite way to pass time on the road?
Vinyl Theatre: Spotify, podcasts (The Joe Rogan Experience, A Mediocre Time with Tom and Dan) and lots of coffee and Red Bull.
MWN: What’s the process like for choosing what songs you’ve written to go on the album?
Vinyl Theatre: We used to write a lot of full song but I think now we’ll say “ok, this one’s worth finishing and it’s going on the album.” It’s really hard to axe a song once we’ve been so dedicated to it.
MWN: Do you guys prefer performing live or recording in the studio?
Vinyl Theatre: They’re both so different. I don’t know how to compare them. That’s like, “would you want to go to the waterpark or go on the roller-coasters?” They’re both so great.
MWN: What’s the hardest part about touring?
Vinyl Theatre: The driving, for sure. And the fact that it feels like you’re married to a few people. Everyone’s got to get along and help carry the weight. It’s hard but it’s also a lot of fun.
MWN: Do you guys have any fun facts that MWN readers would like to know?
Vinyl Theatre: Chris used to be an MMA fighter. Keegan was a big cross country runner. And Nick can pretty much master any piece of technology.
