Whitney brought Lala Lala to The Wiltern last Saturday night for a powerhouse double bill. Lala Lala put out The Lamblast year – a phenomenal, introspective record loaded with great tracks like “Destroyer”, “Spy” and “The Flu”. Lillie West and her band ran through a handful of these new tracks along with the newer 2019 anthem “Siren 042”. The latter was slowed down into a ballad-esque composition and made all the more beautiful.

Later in the evening, Whitney took the stage and graced the crowd with their warm sound landscapes.  The lead singer duels as the drummer but his vocal range was surprisingly strong considering how difficult it is to do both. They came equipped with a live string section and a full band; this arrangement added an extra layer of richness that suits a band like this well. Everyone on stage was dressed in their Sunday best which felt like being less at a rock concert than “an evening with Whitney”. The duo has one more stop on their US tour before they head to Europe for a well deserved victory lap.
