Music, Why Not!

Wonderfront Music And Arts Festival @ San Diego Bay – San Diego, CA (Day Three)

Tucanes De Tijuana

It’s the last day of the first ever Wonderfront Music Festival and everyone is it feeling it! From sore legs to sad feelings, all feels are felt by everyone, including me!

Donna Missal starts the day off, and the weather has changed for day three! With clouds covering the sun, the weather sets the mood for Donna Missal’s slow beat music! Playing at the casbah stage, Donna Missal did not have to much of a crowd. Many had not begun to arrive, leaving Donna Missal with a small but energetic crowd! All the fans lined up at barricade had a bouquet of flowers, waiting for Donna to receive them. I absolutely think the crowd was no issue for Donna. She poured her heart and soul into her performance at Wonderfront and there is no way she will not be invited back to celebrate with Wonderfront!

On my way back to the main stages, I began to make my way back to the Embarcadero stage for BROODS. I cannot begin to even explain BROODS stage performance. They radiated magic throughout the venue. They’re electrifying dance moves were everything! BROODS began their set with Peaches, one of my absolute favorite songs! That got the best reaction from the crowd! Singing different songs from different albums, BROODS was overall magic!

As their set ended, Grace Vanderwaal was to perform after BROODS. She met all my expectations and even exceed them. As I was standing in the photo pit, I got to talk to a mom and her daughter. They both had Grace merch on and I asked about how they became a fan. The young star began her career on America’s Got Talent, and soon began to rack a fan-club. The mom and her daughter were actually apart of the fan-club, so much they run the fan-club. They decided to open a page about Grace and have met so many fans across the world. They decided to drive to San Diego for her performance. The crowd was extremely responsive to Grace Vanderwaal. With Grace being so young, she had a very successful crowd, singing all her songs. As it came to an end of her electrifying performance, she closed off her set with her hit song, I Don’t Know My Name. She definitely had a great crowd and her energy was very radiant.

Hippo Campus was up next on the C3 bank stage! All the members of Hippo Campus hit the stage with the biggest smiles of their life! The crowd was ready for Hippo Campus as they have a very big fanbase in San Diego. It had been a while since they last stopped in San Diego. This performance was very anticipated by San Diego Hippo Campus fan! They began their set with the song Bambi! Along with other hits, such as, Chapstick, Way It Goes, and Baseball. The magical performance by Hippo Campus definitely left the crowd in awe!

Big Wild

Making my way back to the main stage, I was all set to see Big Wild. As I came into this festival, some of the artists were unknown to me. Big Wild was a big discovery for me! I absoley fell in love with the Big Wild’s music as well as production. The lighting, setup and visuals for Big Wild were insane! Just as the crowd went wild, lead singer Jackson Stell began with a mashup of his hits. He is incredibly talented, as well has his back up band. I definitely left a fan and the crowd did as well, if they weren’t already!

Heading to the Univison stage, Los Tucanes de Tijuana were up next! Fans were dressed up and ready to dance as Los Tucanes de Tijuana were to start. What I absolutely appreciate about this stage was the variety of ethnicities present. Many from different background all came together to see this band perform! As they hit the stage, they began with one of their hit singles, La Chica Sexy. Everyone got up and danced the night away. Many singing along while others not knowing the lyrics, still enjoyed every bit of their set. They sang top hits such as La Chona and El Tucanazo, leaving a mark on the Univison stage.

Long walks between stages were stressful, but another highly anticipated artist for the night was Lil Dicky. Having a crowd full of fans, Lil Dicky was peeping through the back to tease the crowd. As he started to perform, everyone went wild! The barricade began to shake and it almost feel over how many people were leaning to touch hands with Lil Dicky. He began his set with Freaky Friday and throughout his set sang different songs such as Personality, White Crime, and Molly. He absolutely killed it up on stage and tried connecting each and every single fan as much as possible throughout his performance.

As Wonderfront was coming to an end, the last performance of the night was Los Angeles Azules. Having the whole grass area filled at the Univision stage, it was inevitable that Los Angeles Azules could come on late. Right on time, the whole band hit the stage by storm for anticipating Latin fans. Everybody was having a good time and while singing, they began to dance cumbia to the rhythm of the music. Los Angeles Azules began the night of with the hit single, 17 años. They sang a variety of songs throughout the night. They sang hot songs such as Cumbia pa’ Gozar, Mi Niña Mujer, 20 Rosas, El Liston De Tu Pelo, and finishing their iconic performance with Como Te Voy A Olvidar. With me being Mexican, spanish music is something that has always been apart of me. The crowds for both of these spanish bands were very fun and entertaining to watch. While photographing both of these bands, I would take a glimpse of the crowd and watch every single person doing something different. It was an absolute blast to see all these people having fun and dancing the night away. It was a pleasure to photograph Los Angeles Azulez.

Wonderfront Music and Arts Festival was a blast! Music is what unites people from different backgrounds and it is life changing. Being apart of the first Wonderfront Festival in San Diego was such an honor. 2020 is going to be even better!
