Despite the show being postponed for a week, the Bridgeport, CT crowd for Young the Giant was loud and dedicated throughout the whole night.
The band is touring for their newest studio album, American Bollywood, which tells the emigration story of front runner Sameer Gadhia’s parents from India to America in 1984. It also touches on Gadhia’s own internal struggle with keeping his family’s culture alive in his own life and identity.
The album was originally released in four acts – Origins, Exile, Battle, and Denouement – and was later combined into one cohesive album. The show follows through those four acts, a voiceover and video introducing the audience from one act to the next. Opening with their single, “American Bollywood” to set the scene, followed by “Wake Up”, was the perfect introduction into the world of American Bollywood and previous hits by Young the Giant, as it references the sage of past lives, Vyassa, and previous journeys had – much like the bands past albums.
The night was filled with singing and dancing, the crowd feeding from the band’s fun and positive energy. They ended the night on a high note, playing one of their bigger hits “My Body” from their debut album, which got everyone out of their seats and shouting the words back at them. Young The Giant continues to tour with Milky Chance in the US through August before they move onto Europe in October. Go check them out if you can!
