Dashboard Confessional headed to Ace of Spades in Sacramento as part their “We Fight” tour in support of recently released album Crooked Shadows. Fans had waited seven years for a new album from Dashboard Confessional, and if the sold out crowd at Ace of Spades was any indication, they’re as passionate about the band as ever. The show started with “Sweetness” by Jimmy Eat World blasting through the speakers, launching the crowd into enthusiastic singing before the band even entered the stage. Chris Carrabba, Dashboard Confessional’s lead singer, started off the set with an acoustic performance of “The Best Deceptions”. The electricity in the room from the second he stepped onstage was palpable; this crowd was enthralled. One young woman leaned over the barricade, resting her head on her hands and staring positively adoringly as Carrabba as he sang the impassioned ballad. This reverence from the audience was a theme throughout the night. As the band performed old and new songs alike, the crowd was there every step of the way. There was not a single moment of the night where Ace of Spades was not pulsing with the sounds of fans singing along with Carrabba and his band. Of course, this culminated with the encore, a performance of Dashboard Confessional’s hit “Hands Down” that sent the venue into five minutes of explosive cheers and song.
