Mclusky, the influential post-hardcore trio from Wales, brought a stable of new songs and beloved classics to the Echoplex in Los Angeles, CA last Monday. This is a continuation from a 2022 tour that got cut short because of ear issues frontman Andrew Falkous suffered.

The run of performances they’re on at the moment follows the release of four new songs late last year.  These four tracks were the first tastes of new music Mclusky fans had in 19 long years. The new music was accompanied by a message claiming that “the first two songs, ‘unpopular parts of a pig’ and ‘the digger you deep’ should make the album we are releasing next year”. Both “unpopular parts of the pig” and “the digger you deep” also made the setlist and have all the classic Mclusky characteristics: chaotic, delightfully sleazy, crudely funny, and a lot of damn fun.

Over the course of 20 songs, Mclusky pulled tracks from across their relatively short career. They played almost the entirety of Mclusky Do Dallas, with highlights coming from opener “Fuck This Band” and hard-charging “Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues”. They also dabbled in The Difference Between Me and You Is That I’m Not on Fire. The surprisingly sweet and tender “She Will Only Bring You Happiness” from that album is always a crowd favorite and gives the set a chance to breath between the madness of their signature sound.

Between songs, Falkous brought his infectious sarcasm to fond memories he shared and hilarious exchanges with the crowd. While the average age of a Mclusky fan isn’t young per se, the banter and dancing throughout the night brought back all the mid-2000s angst many of the crowd surely experienced at the time.

Mclusky will continue touring the U.S. and Canada throughout March before concluding in Washington D.C. on the 23rd. See a full list of dates below:
