Hundreds packed into Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater on a humid Friday for a sold out show as a part of Miguel’s War & Leisure Tour. Nonchalant Savant, Miguel’s brother and one of two openers, started the night off with a brief set serenading the audience with mellow r&b tones as he sang “Mixed Signals” and “…Calling.”
At one point he broke away from his flow to toss a blunt into the crowd before performing “Via Leaves” and playing the bongos TDE’s SiR appeared on stage under blue lights with a dj and keyboardist. Hands rose in unison as he performed “Summer in November.” After halting his set for passing out fans, SiR returned to the stage singing acapella. Standing at his microphone stand, SiR continued on to perform “Queen,” “Ooh Nah Nah, and “Something Foreign.” He ended his set performing “D’evils” as the crowd swayed their hands and sung along.
Energy began to rise in anticipation as a video picturing immigrants protesting around the San Bernardino Immigrant Detention Center introduced the main performer of the evening, Miguel. As the video came to a close a cloud of smoke took over the stage covering Miguel as he emerged upon a massive riser equipped with massive LED screens backed by a full band. Sounds of ladies shrieking in excitement filled the air as the smoke began to fade and Miguel’s silhouette began to perform “Criminal.”
In combat boots, leather pants, and a t-shirt Miguel showed off his dance moves moonwalking up and down his ramp as he continued to perform songs including “Banana Clip,” “Come Thru and Chill,” “Harem,” “Wolf,” “Anointed,” “Waves,” and “Coffee.” Miguel wooed the crowd with his sex appeal as he threw it back performing songs “How Many Drinks,” “Do You,” “Sure Thing,” “The Thrill,” and “All I Want is You.”
Miguel’s passion and energy radiated the venue and his voice echoed into the sky as he neared the end of his set performing “City of Angels” before bringing out his brother, Nonchalant Savant, to perform “Caramelo Duro.” Two hours and three t-shirt changes later Miguel ended his set performing “Pineapple Skies.”
