MWN: Hiya. Thanks so much for chatting with us. Let’s jump right into talking about new music. What would you say is the most challenging thing when it comes to piecing an album together or even a song?

The Nectars: Hi! Honestly, when it comes to creating, we try to just do whatever comes naturally. We find a guitar riff that we like, a nice melody and some lyrics, Mike will come up with a drum beat and we’ll build the track until we feel satisfied. We’ve been in bands our entire lives, so we tend to not think too much and just let our instincts take over.

MWN: I know you guys cannot give too much away, but what is one thing we can we expect from your debut album?

The Nectars: A collection of songs that speak true to who we really are. We’re a dirty, trashy girl-fronted punk band with an appreciation for pop song structure, and that’s what you’ll get when listening to our debut album.

MWN: I absolutely love your single ‘Heaven,’ what was your inspiration for it?

The Nectars: Thanks!! We were listening to a bunch of NYC Post Punk music like Television, Richard Hell, Blondie, etc. and some more modern music too like Foo Fighters. We found a melody, a cool bass riff, added some fuzz and we had ‘Heaven’!

MWN: Speaking of inspirations, you seem to draw from a multitude of artists, how do you blend these styles together?

The Nectars: We’re constantly listening to different types of music, new and old, and we’re always sharing our favorite songs or videos with each other. We’re music lovers first, and whatever cool sounds are making their way through our ear holes, we tend to embody those stylistic aspects and it all comes out naturally when we’re writing new material.

MWN: What would be your dream band to tour with and why?

The Nectars: Probably The Pixies. They’ve been a huge influence of ours since the beginning.

MWN: How long have you all been writing music together? Can you guys walk us through a writing session?

The Nectars: Mikey and Jon were playing and writing together for years prior to The Nectars being formed, but as one unit, we have been writing and playing together for 3 years. Our writing sessions typically start with a guitar or bass riff, and then melody, lyrics, and a drum beat are added. We’ll usually play the song together as a band for a while before getting into the studio, and then from there it’s just deciding what weird guitar pedals or synths we can use.

MWN: Are you guys influenced by any bands from New Jersey?

The Nectars: Yes, absolutely. The Jersey sound flows deep within our bones.. The Misfits were founded a few towns over in Lodi, Debbie Harry from Blondie grew up in the same town as Baron, Hawthorne, and Bruce Springsteen has been an artist that we’ve consistently drawn from for inspiration.

MWN: Any bands you recommend to our readers?
The Nectars: Check out our friends The Cold Seas from Asbury Park, NJ. They just released a new single called “Retrograde”.

MWN: Where do you want to be by the end of this year, considering you will be world travelers by that point?

The Nectars: Haha yes we’re planning to make our way over to the UK in May, and we’d like to be playing as many shows/ festivals that we can in as many places as we can..UK, Germany, US, Australia, it doesn’t matter! We’re just looking forward to sharing our music with the world.

MWN: To wrap things up once again thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions. Lastly, is there anything you guys would like to say to the people who are going to be reading this interview?

Be on the lookout for our new song “I Want It”, which we’ll be releasing on February 23rd ! And lastly.. Stay Sticky.
