MWN: How would you describe your experience recording your debut EP, Junk Rock?

JunkBunny: We had an awesome time recording the EP, and learned a lot in the process. We were fortunate enough to be able to work with Howard Benson, who was a huge help and a great guy.

MWN: Did you go into the studio with a set idea of how you wanted Junk Rockto sound like? Or was developed in the studio over time?

JunkBunny: We went into the studio with the songs ready to go, and knew pretty much what we wanted them to sound like. Again, Howard was there to make it become a reality and polish them up.

MWN: What’s the creative process like in the studio? What comes first lyrics or instrumentals? Or does it vary?

JunkBunny: When we write songs, the guitar and the melody usually comes first. Mac comes up with the lyrics on his own, and then Jake and Cayden add in drums, bass, and harmonies to tie the whole song together. Then there’s usually a period where we experiment with the song for a bit to see if it can get any better.

MWN: How do you narrow down what songs make it on to the final product?

JunkBunny: In this case, we had 10 songs to choose from to put on the EP, and only 4 would make it. We wanted the 4 songs on the EP to be a good introduction to the band, and showcase a variety of the sounds that we have.

MWN: What was it like preforming during Buzzfest in your hometown of Houston?

JunkBunny: It was crazy to be able to play Buzzfest because The Buzz is the station that we all listen to in Houston. It was also nuts to play at the Cynthia Woods Pavilion because we’ve seen so many shows there ourselves. We thought our set went pretty well, and we’re happy to have been a part of the experience.

It would cool to play with other high energy bands that put on good shows like Turnstile or IDLES. We like to think that our show is pretty high energy, so we would fit right in.
